85 Absences=Outstanding Attendance

After a brutal winter battling various illnesses, Lauren ended her 7th grade school year with a whopping 85 absences. She texted me from an year end assembly where she was presented with an attendance award. The conversation went something like this:

"They just gave me an attendance award"

"Umm really? For what? The most absences?"

"Haha. You really aren't funny you know."

"Oh I am. You just don't realize it yet. But really why did you get an award?"

"For perfect attendance"

"85 absences=outstanding attendance! HOW????"

"Duh you excused them all"

"Go figure. Well...great job then"

Strangest system EVER! She even got a certificate to show for it. Let's hope this new school year goes off with fewer absences than 85...fingers crossed!!! She did bust her guts and managed to pull straight A's even with all those missing days so she really did go a wonderful job! (And I walked away with a sigh and a few tears because honestly I helped her earn those A's too and it was painful for both of us. Thank heaven above 7th grade is over.)

(I can't figure out why it keeps posting sideways but I officially give up--I've uploaded it several times after rotating and saving it several different ways. So instead I'll simply say you win this time technology. Well played.)
